Louis C.K. at the Garden

Image plays a large part in how we’re perceived. That much was evident as I commented to my companion, “Is he wearing a suit?” as soon as Louis C.K. stepped on the stage. I’m used to seeing C.K. in his T-shirt on Louie projecting an everyman image and I was surprised to see him step out in a skinny tie and suit.

Whatever his look said about him (as Vulture delved into in their review), C.K. delivered with his comedic bits (ha). He threw out one-liners, stories about racism that just highlight how messed up we all are, gay fantasy with the Magic Mike stars, brought out the stereotypical voices, recalled the many times we think of suicide daily while relating it to naps, and shared vignettes about his daughters and weed.

C.K.’s show was relatable, especially when he mixed his philosophical musings into his personal stories, while still surprising you with his observational humor. He’s still got a lot of his gross humor in there but there’s a lightness that pervades his asides during his anecdotes. And I quite enjoyed the way C.K. always finds comedy in the perverse.
